Three Powerful Words

Despite long records of professional and personal achievements, several of my coaching clients feel like they aren’t enough. These high-achieving professionals often struggle with imposter syndrome, or feeling like they don’t belong in the positions they’re in.

People experiencing imposter syndrome often attribute their accomplishments to luck rather than to ability. They fear that they will eventually be exposed as a fraud.

They may feel like they aren’t enough, and it can be a deep-seated story they tell themselves.

If this sounds like you, there are three powerful words that might change your life: “I am enough.”

Changing your story

What do those feelings of imposter syndrome do for you? Do those thoughts help or hinder you?

What if you had the power to change those thoughts and feelings?

Guess what? You do.

“I am enough.”

Full sentence. Full stop.

Imagine the power to change your thinking by believing “I am enough, just as I am” instead of comparing yourself to others. Instead of beating yourself up when something goes wrong. Instead of not feeling enough, or like you belong.

Imagine the power and the freedom to say and believe “I am enough, as a person, not a productivity machine.”

“I am enough, beautifully and wonderfully made.”

“I am enough, and I don’t have to measure myself by what I accomplish.”

“I am enough, and gosh darn it, people like me.”

“I am enough, and I’m a good ________.”

“I am enough, and I can do a good job. It doesn’t have to be a perfect job.”

“I am enough, and what other people think of me doesn’t matter.”

“I am enough.”

The ability to reframe unhelpful thoughts is a powerful skill. We can learn to value constructive criticism, ask for help, and remember that the more we practice a new skill, the better we will get at it.
